The useful answer first.
What sits behind the quick answer.
Colchicine is an anti-inflammatory medicine used for gout flares and can also be used to help prevent flares while urate-lowering treatment is being started or adjusted. It does not perform the same job as a urate-lowering medicine.
Interactions matter
The NHS lists important medicine interactions and warns against grapefruit juice with colchicine because it can increase the amount of medicine in the blood. This is one reason a medication guide should never become a self-prescribing guide.
Know the role
GoutSense separates “treat the flare” from “lower urate long term” throughout the site so these different jobs are easier to understand.

How to use this without overthinking it.
Keep the boundaries clear.
GoutSense separates general evidence from individual medical advice. Food and lifestyle context can be useful, but it does not diagnose gout and should not be used to start, stop or alter prescribed medication.
